A murder mystery rooted in place.
The Tenth Star is a new original murder mystery set in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. Written by Kersherka Sivakumaran — whose family roots are in Jaffna — the work draws on the specificity of place, culture and history to tell a story that could only happen there.
Like all BCD Theatre work, The Tenth Starbegins with a community story that hasn't found its way to the Australian stage. The murder mystery form gives it structure; the cultural specificity of Jaffna gives it its heart.
Currently in development. BCD Theatre is exploring venue and festival partnerships for the 2027 premiere.
