The Algorithm of Us

— a corporate romantic comedy.

In a world that optimises everything, two corporate rivals discover the one problem no algorithm can solve. A sharp, funny and genuinely warm new work from the company behind And What Will People Say?

About the work

A romcom for the spreadsheet generation.

Laari is a data analyst who believes in clean spreadsheets, reliable datasets, and absolutely zero unnecessary variables. Veeraj is a strategy consultant who speaks entirely in frameworks and has never met a KPI he couldn't charm.

When their two companies are forced to work together — and forced to work against each other — the friction is immediate, professional, and entirely inconvenient. Because the data doesn't lie: these two are a match. And that is the last thing either of them needs right now.

We live in a world that optimises everything. Our inboxes, our calendars, our careers, our dating profiles. We've outsourced so much of the messy, inefficient work of being human to systems that are faster and smarter and considerably less prone to crying in the bathroom between meetings. And yet. The algorithm keeps failing us in the one place it matters most.

The Algorithm of Us is a sharp, funny, and genuinely warm romantic comedy about what we sacrifice in the pursuit of success — and what we risk losing when we're too busy to notice what's actually in front of us. Set in the glass towers of Sydney's CBD, it asks a deceptively simple question: in a world run by data, how do you make a case for something as irrational, inconvenient, and stubbornly human as love?

Packed with big data puns, satirical corporate jargon, and one extremely opinionated Muppet-style paperclip. We don't spare the uncomfortable truths of corporate Australia that many are too scared to say for their career growth.

Think Succession meets The Mindy Project — with better coffee and worse PowerPoint transitions.

The Algorithm of Us is co-written by Kersherka and Mary-Jane Estrada, and produced by BCD Theatre — the company behind the award-recognised And What Will People Say? (Sydney Fringe 2025; Melbourne 2026).

Coming to Sydney Fringe Festival 2026. Lane Cove Pottery Lane Theatre · September 2026. Recommended for audiences 15+.
